Kid3 1.6
1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point

First choice for the handling of ID3-tags of an audio file

Kid3 is first choice if you want to handle ID3-tags (1.1 to 2.) of an audio file. Besides MP3 and Ogg it also supports FLAC, MPC, MP4/AAC, MP2, Speex, TrueAudio and WavPack. Of course, ID3-tags can be converted from one version into another. Additionally you are able to generate ID3-tags out of the file names and vice versa. Directories are renamed according to the tags. The marked audio files can be used to create playlists (*.m3u) in order to facilitate the playback of your songs by media players. To create a simple M3U-playlist call up "Create Playlist" in the file menu. By "File - Export" you obtain extended playlists. As format choose "Extended M3U". The ID3-tags also can be stored here as Extended PLS, CSV or HTML. An immense facilitation for the handling of the ID3-tags is the connection to sources like gnudb.org, TrackType.org, MusicBrainz or Discogs, whose album and song information can be transferred directly. In the context menu of an audio file you also have access to services (LyrikWiki, LeosLyrics and Lyrc) which may provide the complete song text. You may find an appropriate cover for the album using the connection to Google Images.

LMMS 0.4.11
1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point

Recording, Composing, editing and mixing of digital music

In the area of music, there are many very suitable open source programs for the handling of sound files, composition of midi music, arrangement of beats and rhythms as well as the creation of audio effects. But there are only a few programs able to cope with all of these aspects. One of them is Linux Multimedia Studio (LMMS) which enables you to record digital music, compose, edit and mix it. This pattern based program allows you to arrange several music sections together with audio tracks to arrange a song. Neither the tools, nor the functions are missing. A song, beat and bassline editor are at your disposal as well as a FX mixer, piano roll, midi support, diverse software synthesizer etc. . About the structure of this program: The song editor contains the playlist with its different tracks and a toolbar. With the second button bar you can also call up or hide Beat+Bassline Editor, Piano-Roll, Automations Editor and FX-Mixer respectively. Left side in the processing area, you find the project and sample browser. You could first start with the composition of a simple beat. In the "My samples" browser you open one of the folders and transfer some of the samples to the Beat+Bassline Editor by a double click. You set steps by clicking a grey button which afterwards looks green. This way you can arrange diverse audio tracks with the desired entrances without too much effort. After a click on the Play button you will listen to the result of your composition. The Audiofile processor is responsible for envelops, low-frequency oscillators and filtering of a sample. The plugin is called up with a click on a sample name in the Beat+Bassline Editor. The sound spectrum can be extended among other things by the entrance of instruments, software synthesizers like Triple Oscillator and the application of VST and LADSPA effects on any audio track. LMMS is able to import MIDI and RIF files. Your compositions can be exported to WAV or OGG. The program language is defined in \LMMS...\data\locale. In this example we change German language to English: German is defined in the file de.qm. English is defined in the file en.qm. Delete de.qm. Rename en.qm to de.qm. LMMS would now load en.qm as de.qm and you have now English text in your LMMS installation.

Miro 4.0.2
1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point

Offers whatever you need for online tv

Informative or entertaining, modern or conservative - online tv offers a wide choice of programs and its mass appeal is continuously growing. However, the bigger the choice, the more difficult it is to locate what is really interesting for you! This is why we recommend you Miro because it does not only help you to choose and locate videos but it also is able to playback all current video formats by itself. It is you who decide which of the countless channels of online tv you finally will subscribe to. Therefore click on the respective button "Add Feed". For a better survey, those channels you are not interested in can be deleted again. Going to the Preferences in the Video menu, in the register "Disk space", you are able to determine if downloaded videos should be deleted automatically after a certain time. In the Preferences in the register "Folders" , there is a nice special. Here you integrate Miro as an independent channel into a video-list of your hard disk.

VLC Media Player 1.1.10
1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point 1 Point

A True All-Rounder among Media Players

The VLC or Videolan Client Media Player, originally, has been created in order to stream videos over the web. By now, it has become a true all-rounder in the media players' area. It can be used as a DVD, VCD, and audio player. In most cases, VLC does not depend on pre installed codecs as it is equipped with a big amount of codecs itself. As a player it supports MPEG- and DivX streaming which makes it possible to play videos already while they are downloaded. This is why this program is perfect for video on demand. Visualizing and an equalizer with prepared sound effects are a welcome complement to the audio part. If you are not familiar with the streaming technique, we recommend you the streaming assistant in the file menu. Step by step it will lead you to the desired goal. Further features are, amongst others, the usage of skins for the program surface and the creation of play lists, for example.
