Serious alternative to commercial packers
7-Zip is a serious alternative to commercial packers. As a packer it obtained a better compression
rate than its commercial equivalent. As an unpacker it supports besides its own format 7z
also the following formats: ZIP, ARJ, RAR,GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, DEB, CAB, RPM and CPIO. It
does not only pack your files to 7z (also as a self-extracting SFX archive), but also to
GZIP, BZIP2, TAR and ZIP. The program surface can be divided into two windows whose
navigation is independent one from the other (view - 2 windows). 7-Zip enregisters itself
into the context menu of the explorer. By Tools - Options - Plugins you can handle the
menu structure and determine which functions you want to be visible.
Much more than just a text editor
Abiword is a successful alternative to MS Wordpad. It offers many additional features
like the possibility to place a text higher or lower as well as to overline it. The
document can be divided into maximal three columns. You can choose between some samples
of indention. The headline and the footer can be created. The background colour for your
text can be chosen. Additionally, there are available block text, plain text and a
special character chart, which permits you to introduce special characters into your text
very quickly. Also, the program offers an unlimited undo and redo, respectively. For
larger documents the bookmark function could be very interesting. Put the cursor on the
wanted place and go to Insert - Bookmark. Now determine the mark name. Using a hyperlink
you will get directly to this mark. Set up a character string in the document and go to
Insert - Hyperlink. Automatically the hyperlink receives a blue underline. With a double
click on the hyperlink you get finally to the bookmark. Among other things, Abiword is
able to handle Word-, ODT- and RTF-files as well as HTML- and TXT-files. If you use to
compose very large or a very great number of documents, Abiword will accommodate you with
its ability of saving compressed texts (GZipped AbiWord*.zabw). This may allow you to
save a lot of storage space!
Tool for renaming files
It is one of the best tools for renaming files. First of all, select the file in the file
area or the respective folder you want to rename. You may choose a single file, all files
of a certain folder and if necessary of all subfolders. However, it is possible to remove
files from the list, which gives you the absolute control over the file selection. Now,
click on the Actions button. Here, you will determine the manner of modification. With
"change extension" the file type is replaced or completed. Therefore you must not put in
the dot before the "Extension". So, you have to write "txt" instead of ".txt".
"Enumeration" allows a consecutive numeration (000, 001, 002 etc.); you can choose the
start number and the step-up value. Of course, you cannot only rename the file type, but
any single part of the file name. For this purpose you may use "String replacement" or
"String insertion". While the first method replaces parts of the text, the second one
just inserts text. In both cases you receive a real-time preview of the modification! By
the way, regardless of the method you use, you receive a complete preview of the
modification in the preview area. Now let us talk about the more special methods of
renaming. With "Characters deletion" you can delete a certain number of characters never
mind which ones. You have to determine after which character ("From position") how many
characters ("Number of characters to delete") have to be deleted. Instead of this, you
also can define a certain text ("After the string") after which you want the deletion to
start. Once you are sure that all data are correct, you start the whole renaming process
by a click on the Go button. In case there is still something you do not approve, the
operation can be cancelled. Ant Renamer offers further features: modification of
mp3-tags, of lower case letters to capital letters and vice versa and other things more.
No more poorly equipped command line
With Console your poorly equipped command line finally comes to an end. In the settings
in the edit menu you have to adjust the window size, the window position and
transparency, the background colour or background image as well as the start directory
and then start the shell (command interpreter) with certain parameters. Several tabs can
be opened whose behaviour and appearance you are able to pre-configure (Settings - Tabs).
Texts can be copied like in a text editor. To do so, click and hold the left shift key
while you use the left mouse button to mark any text in the panel window. If you have
ticked "Copy on select" under Behaviour in the settings, the marked text will be copied
immediately. Key combinations as well as the context menu of the panel window and of the
tray icon offer you a fast access to the panel function.
Optimizes the copying and scrolling of files
Optimize the copying and scrolling of files or folders. Copy Handler is especially
recommendable for a greater amount of data. It accelerates the copying process a lot. In
addition to that, the tool is able to restart discontinued copying processes. Click on
the tray icon with the right mouse button an go to options. Here, you will have many
setting options are at your disposal. We are able to present you only a small choice of
them , now. With "Log set up file" you cause the tool to record each operation in a log
file. If wanted, Copy Handler is able to shut down the system once a copying process is
concluded successfully. In case you need so, deactivate "Set attributes of destination
files" and "Set date/time ..." and so all existent file properties will be deleted and
all time entries of the file will be replaced by the current calendar date. We recommend
you as a precaution, to have a file deleted only after it has been scrolled completely
"Don't delete files before copying finishes". On active "Clipboard monitoring" the tool
assumes the copying as soon as you mark certain files and press the key combination CTRL
+ C. Apart from that, Copy Handler is also available by the explorer context menu.
Cleans your system
Disc Cleaner provides many cleaning mechanisms intended to clean up your system
efficiently. Tick actions like cleaning out temp folder. The number of existent files or
entries to be deleted as well as the total size of memory getting free thereby is edited.
Disc Cleaner also eliminates traces of your online sessions in Internet Explorer or
Firefox. After a click on the Clean-button you will start the cleaning of the labeled
areas. Afterwards, you will receive a result list editing also the number of files that
are going to be deleted only after a reboot of the system. With "Save" you are able to

Double Commander, a file manager, features many functions Windows Explorer is lacking
painfully. Its special feature is the display of directories and files in two independent
windows in which you are able to open further tabs with their own folder administration.
In addition to a file manager's basic functions and the adoption of the Explorer context
menu it provides a compression function (zip, tar, gz, tgz) as well as the unpacking of
gz, bz2, zip and tar files. The internal text editor supports syntax highlighting for
html, C++, Perl, SQL, PHP programming language and the text viewer is able to open files
in the text, binary or hex format. Additionally the program possesses feature-rich tools
for file and text location as well as for comparison, connection, division and renaming.
With CTRL/D or clicking on the asterisk you access prepared bookmarks (Commands -
Directory hotlist). The help keyboard enables you to find out all internal key
combinations.

their sub-directories permanently. So they are not moved to the recycle bin. This
function must be activated first by ticking 'Allow to delete folders from the right clic
menu' (Tools - Options). Each pie graphic can be saved as a hdg file or exported as a
png image. If the program does not start, you will need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or
higher.
Tool for Hardware and System Analysis
ManagePC analyzes your hardware and computer system and summerizes the results in table form. This includes a survey
of all installed programs, codecs, Windows Updates and environment variables. In addition to that, the program administrates
the ongoing processes and starts or stops services. Some functions, like accessing the VNC remote control tool and the time
scheduled accomplishment of tasks (Scheduled Task) on a remote computer only can be used if ManagePC has been installed on
a pc with Active Directory service. Otherwise the program changes over to local mode. All results can be saved as html, rtf,
or excel files. If the program does not start, you will need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or higher.
