Graphics & design
Inkscape
A vector graphics editor for logos, illustrations, diagrams and artwork that stays sharp at any size.
Create scalable graphics, logos and illustrations
Inkscape is an open source vector graphics editor. Unlike a conventional photo editor, it primarily works with shapes, lines, paths and text that can be enlarged without becoming pixelated.
Inkscape can be used to create logos, icons, diagrams, illustrations, maps, posters and other graphical designs. Objects can be grouped, transformed and arranged on different layers. Paths and individual nodes can be edited precisely, while gradients, transparency and filters provide more creative possibilities.
Its native format is SVG, an open standard that is also widely used for graphics on websites.
Bitmap images can be incorporated into a design, while finished work can be exported into formats suitable for sharing, printing or further processing.
Why we selected it
Inkscape fills an important gap between simple drawing programs and expensive professional vector applications. Basic graphics can be created fairly quickly, but the program also contains enough advanced tools for ambitious projects. It is particularly worthwhile whenever a graphic needs to remain sharp at almost any size.
