Files & archives

PeaZip

An archive manager for creating, opening and checking many compressed file formats.

ARCHIVES

Open, create and manage file archives

PeaZip is an open source archive manager that handles a large number of compressed file formats.

It can be used for everyday ZIP archives, but becomes especially useful when you receive a less common archive format that Windows itself cannot open.

Files and folders can be compressed into archives to save space or make them easier to distribute. Existing archives can be opened and their contents extracted without first having to know which application created them.

PeaZip also provides tools for checking archives and working with encrypted archives. This makes it useful both for simple file compression and for more demanding archive-management tasks.

Why we selected it

Windows already includes basic ZIP support, so an additional archive manager needs to offer more than simply creating ZIP files. PeaZip does exactly that. Its broad format support makes it a useful general-purpose tool for people who regularly download software, exchange archived data or work with files created on different systems.

Best suited for: ZIP files, compressed downloads, archive management and less common archive formats.
